Director: Halime Akturk

Halime Akturk is a Kurdish-Canadian documentary filmmaker and independent producer. She was awarded the 2023 Toronto Arts Foundation Newcomer Award for her documentary work and was selected as a mentee for the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto Newcomer Mentorship Program in 2020. As a former journalist from Turkey, she received the Best TV News Award from the Istanbul Medical Chamber. After graduating from Toronto Metropolitan University’s Film Studies program, Halime is currently directing and producing two documentaries funded by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Toronto Arts Council. She also produced and managed a major international theatre project funded by the CCA. Halime was recently one of five panel members for the Toronto Arts Council Media Artists: Creation Panel in 2023.
